Prophesying by what spirit?

“And it came to pass on the morrow, that the evil spirit from God came upon Saul, and he prophesied in the midst of the house: and David played with his hand, as at other times: and there was a javelin in Saul’s hand” (1 Samuel‬ ‭18:10‬).

Ever wonder why a man may preach the finest of sermons by human standards, get many amens, get people excited, and still not be moved by the plight of the world? Because he’s probably prophesying by an evil spirit.

Ever wonder why a man can preach and pray and then prey on the church’s women? Prophesying by an evil spirit.

Ever wonder why one can sing like an angel and still live like a devil? Prophesying by an evil spirit.

Ever wonder why one can show kindness that speaks volume in the world and yet be as mean as could be in the home? Prophesying by an evil spirit.

Don’t be so quick to be impressed with display of religiosity and pompous speeches and theatrics and colorful singing from the podium. Look at the fruit of our hearts, after we have done all of this display. By what spirit are we doing these things? That’s the thing to consider.

May the Holy Spirit take a hold of our prophesying; else another spirit will.
